About HearthWell Recovery

Addiction Treatment in Dover, NH

HearthWell Recovery is a structured outpatient addiction treatment center in Dover, New Hampshire, built on a simple belief: recovery works best when the whole path holds together. We bring clinical care, real-life stability, and a credentialed local team into one coordinated place — so people can rebuild their lives without falling through the gaps between one stage of recovery and the next.

We do this through two levels of outpatient care: our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Our admissions team is here to answer your questions and walk you through what starting care looks like — a quick call is often the easiest place to begin.

Our Story

HearthWell Recovery was built to close a gap that too many people fall into: you finish one stage of recovery motivated and ready — and then find yourself navigating treatment, work, relationships, and everyday triggers all at once, often without coordinated support. The momentum fades not because people stop trying, but because the pieces of recovery were never connected in the first place.

Shawn Richardson, Founder of HearthWell Recovery

Our founder, Shawn Richardson, has seen that pattern up close for years. He has spent roughly two decades supporting recovery communities across the New Hampshire Seacoast — long enough to watch the same story repeat: people leaving one level of care with real hope, then losing ground because the next step wasn’t there to catch them. Shawn is also a founder of The Freemen House, an NHPRR and NHCORR certified, 12-Step, substance-free recovery housing community in the greater Dover area (founded in 2005).

That long view shaped what HearthWell would become. Rather than treat recovery as a series of disconnected handoffs, HearthWell brings the clinical pieces together under one coordinated, person-first approach — structured outpatient care that adjusts as your needs change, so progress can keep moving forward instead of starting over. The goal is straightforward: help people build a life they don’t need to recover from.

Mission: “Building strong recovery communities so fewer people return to treatment.”

Vision: “A future where recovery is not temporary, but a foundation for wholeness.”

Our Values

  • Dignity — We treat the person, not the problem.
  • Evidence — We use methods that work, and we keep improving them.
  • Accountability — We track progress and stay transparent about it.
  • Community — Family, peers, work, and school are part of recovery.
  • Stability — A consistent routine and a steady footing change what’s possible.

Meet the People Behind Your Care

Recovery is only as strong as the people guiding it — people who understand this work because many of them have walked the road themselves. HearthWell’s care is delivered by a licensed, credentialed team with decades of combined experience and deep roots in the New Hampshire Seacoast recovery community — clinical leadership, counselors, medical, and recovery-support staff who treat you like a person, not a case number.

Kayla Cyr

Executive Director

Kayla Cyr serves as the Executive Director of HearthWell Recovery, bringing an unstoppable, results-driven approach to building programs that don't just treat addiction, but transform lives. With a strong foundation in admissions, operations, and program development, she has been instrumental in creating, strengthening, and driving meaningful, sustainable growth. But Kayla's leadership goes far beyond the metrics. As a woman in long-term recovery since 2018, her work is deeply personal. She knows the chaos, the loss, and the fight it takes to rebuild and refuses to accept the revolving door that too often defines this industry. At HearthWell, her mission is clear: to create a space where individuals are not only stabilized, but equipped with a real, lasting solution. At the core of everything she does are her two boys; the reason she chose a different life and the reason she continues to show up with intensity, purpose, and heart every single day. Whether she's leading her team, building programming, or simply being present at home, Kayla is grounded in what matters most: connection, accountability, and growth. Outside of her work, she finds joy in the simple, meaningful moments; time with her children, building a life rooted in stability and purpose, and snuggling her new pup, Bennie, who serves as a daily reminder of how much life can change. Kayla's vision for HearthWell Recovery is bold: to raise the standard of care, break cycles, and prove that real recovery is not only possible, but sustainable.
